Frequently asked questions

We now have an FAQ list that we hope will help you answer some of the more common ones.

What is Laser Hair removal?

Laser hair removal involves sending a beam of laser light to a group of hair follicles with enough power to disable the root of the hair follicle without harming the surrounding skin.

What about other hair removal techniques?

Epilation, Shaving, Waxing, plucking and hair removal creams are all temporary methods. They come with their own set of challenges – inconvenient, painful, skin irritation. Epilatory creams are quite toxic and work by changing the chemical makeup of the hair. This means that the hair falls out easily, but will regrow quickly as it has had no effect on the hair follicle.

What happens during hair removal?

Before treatment, the area to be treated is cleansed properly. In some cases, anesthesia cream for numbing the area may be applied, but this is rare and used only when the skin is very sensitive.

The treatment takes place in a room reserved for laser treatment. Protective eye gear is a must for everyone present in the room.

What do I do after hair removal?

You must protect your skin from the sun. After laser hair removal, you should wear sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight from hitting your treated skin.

You will see some redness and swelling after treatment. This can be reduced by applying a cool compress.

Is there any downtime?

No, laser hair removal doesn’t involve any, and most of these are carried out as lunchtime procedures.

How long before I see results?

The reported success rate is of 85-99% permanent hair reduction after just 6 to 10 treatments. The results also vary from patient to patient. The color and thickness of your hair, area treated, type of laser used, and color of your skin all affect the results. One can expect a 10% to 25% reduction in hair after the first treatment.

What are the possible side effects?

Minor side effects are redness, mild swelling, and discomfort which subside over 1 to 3 days post-treatment.

Side effects are minimum under the expert supervision of a dermatologist. Other possible side effects are rare when laser hair removal is performed by a dermatologist or under the dermatologist’s direct supervision. Other possible side effects include:

  •  Blistering.
  • Herpes simplex (cold sores) outbreaks.
  • Infections.
  • Scarring.
  • Skin lightening or darkening.

How long do the results last?

The response varies from individual to individual; however, most people stay hair free for months to years. To keep area hair free, people may need repeat maintenance laser treatment
