Frequently asked questions

We now have an FAQ list that we hope will help you answer some of the more common ones.

1. How does the Spectra Hollywood peel work?

The laser first targets the melanin gently and breaks it up so that the body can remove it naturally and causes the body to stimulate collagen production.

2. How does Hollywood peel or laser peel process work?

At the start, a layer of liquid carbon is applied to the skin.
Laser energy will be applied to the skin.
The physician might make multiple passes over the skin during treatment.

Cleansing: The liquid carbon material is applied to the area at the start of the procedure as it absorbs oil and impurities from deep within the pores. Laser energy destroys the carbon particles.
Exfoliating: The laser energy exfoliates and removes dead skin cells and blackheads. The resulting skin is smooth and glowing and pore size is reduced – overall skin tone is improved.
Rejuvenating: Collagen production is stimulated which results in a firm and radiant skin with reduced fine lines.
Acne and Oil Destroying: The overall process also reduces the bacteria responsible for acne.

3. Who is the right candidate for a Hollywood peel or carbon peel?

Anyone who has the need for a younger looking skin, faces the problem of uneven skin tone, preparing for instant glow for a party or function, people with acne-prone skin or skin with open pores, wrinkles, fine lines or blemishes on the face.

Under what conditions should one avoid the procedure?

  1. Pregnant and nursing women

  3. Sun damage which is recent
  4. Active wound
  5. Viral warts on the area to be treated

6. Does the benefits last long?

  • The name Hollywood peel may suggest a before party procedure but the benefits on the skin texture are longer lasting. I would call it the All-in-one kind of treatment. Still, the patient needs to follow a comprehensive skin care regimen for the best results.

6. What are the various types of chemical peels?

The peels are of various types-

  • Uperficial peels that go up to stratum corneum e.g. Salicylic acid, Glycolic acid 30- 50%, and Jessner’s solution
  • Superficial light peels- They reach up to basal layer e.g. GA 50 to 70%
  • Medium depth peels- They reach up to dermis e.g. TCA 35- 50%, GA 70%, 88% Phenol
  • Deep peels like Baker Gordon phenol peel
  • Lipohydroxy acid (LHA) A new group of agents which are used to exfoliate and remove dead skin giving skin a smooth, shiny surface.

7. How many sessions are needed?

  • Since, every skin is different- the number of sessions will vary depending on skin type, condition, etc. Generally 4-6 sessions are needed, but for more significant improvements, more sessions may be needed which are spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart.

11. What is Hollywood peel?

Also known as Carbon peel, it is a revolutionary laser treatment which is a quick office time procedure with long-lasting results. A layer of liquid carbon is applied to the skin which penetrates deep into the pores of the skin. The carbon is applied on the face over which the doctor passes the laser in spectra mode. The carbon absorbs the heat and passes it on to the skin which takes about one minute. This is followed by the passage of the laser beam over the skin in the Q-switch setting of 1064 nm. It makes a clicking sound and one can smell the carbon which is removed by the laser taking off the dead skin and excessive oil.

12. Is the treatment painful?

Absolutely not, rather my patients are more comfortable with this than the regular chemical peel as there is no pain and downtime.
